Thoughts Are Things - Part 29

There is nothing to fear except fear itself.
One must ask who is afraid.
Is it I or Me ?
Swami Durgananda

Amanda's Comment: Good point!

It’s Me… that part of me that has kept me small, dull, stagnant and STUCK!
Fear - my arch enemy. I have given fear too much of my attention, I’ve spent too much of my time and energy stuck in FEAR - immobilised, unable to make decisions, unable to choose a course of action...

Why? Because I didn’t want to get it wrong, make a mistake, or fail… How could I be so hard on myself?  Life is for living, for learning through experience and we learn from our mistakes. Why was I not letting myself learn?

I’ve made a decision it’s time for me to get to know my fears and turn them into a positive force in my life. As Swami's says "Defeat the negative with the positive".

Fear can be a great motivator, I’m making a conscious choice to redirect the fear energy towards actively achieving my goals, instead of inhibiting them. I accept that at times I'm afraid or fearful, but now I'm going to focus on moving through my fears and breaking through the barriers I’ve built around me that have kept me small. It's time to set myself free...
Its time to let ' I' develop and grow. Crikey it’s time to get moving…

Thoughts Are Things - Part 28

Don’t waste this life experience
and allow yourself to pass you by
Swami Durgananda

Amanda's Comment: The thought that I could pass myself by was something I'd never imagined. And it was horrendous to me.

I was getting upset, what if I had already passed myself by?

All the things I have been thinking about doing with the people I love, all the things I have been dreaming about doing, saying, making, writing... it all came rushing in and I burst into tears.

After my meltdown I decided to make some changes to the way I live my life (which I’m revising  regularly)  because I don’t want to pass myself by.

I choose to live the life I was born to live. If that means I live  life with courage and determination, so be it.  If I'm required to challenge and push through the limitations I have built around me to keep myself small then that's how I will live. I’m now in the process of living large.

Wish me luck...  Amanda

Thoughts Are Things - Part 27

Look at your habits
the habits of body, mind and soul.
Then ask yourself the question
‘Who is in control’?
Swami Durgananda

Amanda's Comments:
Great question and being really honest I think my habits have the upper hand at times, & probably more than I'm aware.

If  I replaced my negative habits with positive habits will I be more in control - I'm going to challenge myself to give it a go and see what happens.

Thoughts Are Things - Part 25

Introspection is looking within, looking into ones thoughts
and feelings it is the only way to get to know yourself.

For wholistic balance the first step is to go within bring
your focus into the deepest realms of your mind.

Only so can you begin to understand the subtleties of your
nature bringing your own world into harmony and balance.
Swami Durgananda

Amanda's Comment:
Another gift from Swami. Not only wise words but guidance and support to find harmony and balance in our own world. And something else to to meditate on.

Thoughts Are Things Part 8

The path to enlightenment
is equilibrium in thought, word and deed.

True balance is not given it is attained.
Swami Durgananda

Amanda's Comment:
When I think of equilibrium I think of an acrobat standing on a plank, balancing on a ball. The acrobat is ever focused, totally aware of each tiny shift in energy so as to counter act the effect and keep in a state of true balance. It takes courage and perseverance.

Thoughts Are Things - Part 24

Yoga Nidra is not for clearing the mind of thoughts or halting the thought process but for getting to know yourself.

We must always be mindful of the subtle changes
within the mind and especially the ego.

Remember if we are forever vigilant in our practices
we can never be tricked or diverted
by misguided conquering thoughts.
Swami Durgananda

Amanda's Comment: Yoga Nidra is a practice of deep relaxation experienced in many schools of yoga as part of a yoga class, it follows the breathing segment and is before the meditation

Many of my students have said its their favorite part of the class

With Swami's wisdom in mind Yoga Nidra is a powerful process,
I highly recommend it.
